2020 Census Information

View Information Video | 2020 Census Information Sheet | 2020 Census FAQs and Timeline

The 2020 census is quickly approaching. A census is conducted every ten years.  The 2020 Census has a goal to count everyone once, only once, and in the right place.  95% of households will receive their census invitation to participate in the census via the mail.  Almost 5% of households will receive their census invitation when dropped off by a census taker, and less than 1% of households will be counted in person by a census taker instead of being invited to respond on their own.  You will have three options to respond online, by mail, or by telephone. Households who do not respond to the survey in one of the three methods will be visited by a census taker.  Census results help to determine boundaries districts for congressional, state legislative and school districts, how many seats our state gets in Congress and how federal funding gets distributed to states and communities.  It helps to create jobs, provides housing, and prepares for emergencies, builds schools, roads, and hospitals.  These are just a few of the many ways census data is used. Some of the questions you will be asked is your personal information - name, sex, age and date of birth, race, whether your rent or own your home, phone number, etc., and the same information for any/all people living or staying in your home, that will ensure that everyone at the address is counted.  Your personal information is confidential and protected by law.

If you would be interested in becoming a census taker, please apply online: 2020census.gov/jobs or call: 1-855-JOB-2020.
